Timmy Patterson Surfboards
tpattersonsurfboards.com
With roots that run deep into the Southern California surfboard shaping history books, Timmy Patterson is a stand out of the KCOAST Boardroom line-up of shapers. With a dedication to function over fashion, you won’t catch Timmy chasing trends or turning out boards that are the next big thing. Dependable craftsmanship with an eye for functionality in all conditions is the staple of Timmy’s quiver and at KCOAST we stock them deep and for good reason. KCOAST is committed to bringing the best AMERICAN MADE HAND SHAPED
surfboards to Ocean City. Some of the area's best surfers keep coming back year after year for them. From the fish to the step up, Timmy’s boards have been ridden by the icons of surfing from Matt Archbold, Martin Potter, Timmy Reyes, Mike Losness, Alek Parker, and the late great Andy Irons.
T. Patterson Surfboards was founded in 1980 by surfboard shaper Timmy Patterson.
The Patterson family has a long history in the surfing industry and Timmy is the second generation shaper of the Patterson family. His father, Ronald Patterson, and his uncles, Robert and Raymond Patterson, have been involved in the surf industry since the inception in the 1950's. Prior to opening T. Patterson Surfboards, Tim shaped at Hobie Surfboards in Dana Point, California. It was there that he learned the art of shaping from legends such as Terry Martin, Dale Velzy, Mickey Munoz and Chris McElroy.”
Patterson Models carried at KCOAST:
The Swass: The small wave assassinator is our all-around, everyday, standard short board. A balanced low overall rocker paddles easy and creates tons of drive for powerful carves in small to medium surf. It has a medium full rail and a flatter deck. More nose area for speed over flat sections and a bump wind hip keeps it loose for laying rail. Ride 1 inch shorter and a half inch wider than your Assassinator.
The Losness: WE don’t know if you have ever seen Mike Losness surf, but he is one of the least predictable and radical surfers out there. He goes lightning fast and will turn on a dime when you least expect it. One sure that he sure knows is what he likes in his boards. This board is made to go fast and turn on a dime. It has the outline characteristics of a larger wave board, but the soft forgiving rail of a groveler. This allows the board to perform in a broad range of conditions.
The Rising Sun: The Rising Sun has been T.P.’s best seller since its origins. Has low full semi down rails that allow you to sink the rails off your bottom turn. Has a flat deck with low tail and nose rocker. An everyday conditions magic carpet.
The X-2: The X-2 is an all-around performance groveler. We have taken all the good stuff from our X series and added in a little more performance for 2012. With a little more nose flip and a flatter deck with medium rails, we even increased the volume in the tail throughout the width and thickness for added acceleration.
The Spud: The Spud is fun for smaller days. You'll want to ride it about two or three inches shorter than your standard shortboard and about a half an inch wider. The widest point is further up the board, keeping more foam under your chest and allowing for an easier and faster paddle. We pulled in the tail for a faster and more responsive feel in and out of your turns. Perfect for blow tails, power turns, air reverses, etc. Works well as a rounded squash, swallow or pintail.
The X-File: The X-File is on the best sellers from 2010. It has a fuller outline with low tail rocker & a medium nose rocker. The bottom comes with double concave through the fins and fades into a decent amount of vee off the tail. Designed with a wide soft diamond tail, but also works well as a swallow or thumb tail.
The XXX: Designed off the X-File, the XXX comes shorter and wider with a low entry rocker and medium rail. The single concave runs all the way through it off the tail. The slightly wider tail block comes with a squash runs but also works well as a swallow. Ride it 2-3” shorter than and ½” wider.
The S-Fish: These days, having a fish as the second board in your quiver is almost a requirement because of the tremendous ability o catch waves and perform in mushy surf. T. Patterson’s Sherman fish super short and wide template with the double wing swallow creates a fast and loose little performer. This is a perfect for summertime surf, catches waves like a long board, and throws buckets like a short board. Ride 3-4 inches shorter than your short board.
Cole Surfboards

Ask any shaper for a list of their idols and Cole Simler will assuredly be on most of those shapers top 5. Shaping for over 20 years out of the San Clemente surf ghetto were modern high performance surfing was honed in the late 1980’s into the 1990’s, Cole’s goal is to enable the surfer to free himself from whatever restrictions he held before as far as his surfer and allow expansion into new territories of surfing. Don’t fear away from the standard stick by any means, but at KCOAST, we take great pride in offering Cole’s specialty’s, the
funky modern fish, and the serious step up and semi guns. On the same rack here you can find a board you were hoping that you were have to buy for that serious wave trip of a lifetime, and buy a board that looks so weird but surfs so good on the worst day at home that you’ll never ride anything else. Plus, who can’t love a great guy who surfs more than anyone you know all over the world on his next mind-blowing shape.
“Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have shaped for and surfed with some of the most progressive and innovative surfers in the world. Surfers that push the limits of performance have always been intriguing to me. Surfers like Bruce Irons, Andy Irons, Nathan Fletcher, Matt Archbold, and Chris Ward constantly bend and break the rules of what is possible and what is not. My goal is to make the imagination the only limit to what is possible in surfing, not the equipment.”
Cole Models carried at KCOAST:
Grasshopper: The Grasshopper quad is a full outline, semi-fish version of our world renowned firefly quad. It has a very low entry rocker with a moderate amount of kick out
the tail. The grasshopper also features a unique double wing bat tail, which allows the board to be wider at the fins, for quick acceleration and drive, and then pull in quickly for more holding power on turns. This board flies through and over sections in small to medium surf.
Pistol: The pistol features a sleek outline with a smooth entry rocker. A fair amount of tail
rocker allows, for snappy turns and the board fits nicely into the curve of the pocket. The bottom contours feature a blend of flat, vee, and double concave vee for a balance for speed and control. These boards have fairly narrow tails (usually round-pins or narrow round-squares) for holding power and control. This is the model for good waves and good surfing. They are perfect boards to take on surf trips.
Flight Deck: Designed primarily for small the medium sized surf, the flight deck features a
slightly fuller outline and a wider tail block than a standard short board. This outline, along with the slightly deeper concaves allows this design to catch waves easily and slingshot through mushy sections at the same time. These boards maintain the snappy characteristics of the high performance shortboard while giving the rider a bit more glide through flat spots. This model is a must for the everyday surfer.
Trunk Board AKA BD3: This short stubby bonzer-esque design features a very low entry rocker, with a moderate amount of tail rocker. The deep “bonzer” style concave that runs through the full length from the nose, through the fins, and out the tail. Even though it is short, the low entry rocker combined with the full length concave allows this board to catch waves and plane through sections with ease. For 2010, Cole added the option for a 5-fin box, with that fin set up making this great design carvy and drivey, yet still very loose.
FireWire Surfboards

With as much research and development going into each board as NASA puts into a space shuttle, you can be sure that with every FireWire from Nev Hyman you’re getting the best
surfboard possible in terms of materials, shapes, and durability. Expanding its line-up in the last few years, FireWire has a plethora of shapes for every surfer and wave condition.
Utilizing computer shaping and radical design features including balsa rails, carbon fiber stripping, balsa deck laminates and self-offsetting fins, the surfboard you get from FireWire will definitely be sure to turn heads in and out of the water. KCOAST believes that FireWire has its eyes set on the future, and if you do too, then do yourself a favor. Gaining much experience, Nev began to hone his craft and feel for the perfect surfboard. By 1998, Nev Future Shapes was the new name. Starting in 1989, Hyman began to get involved with computer shaping. He became quite involved in the general acceptance of the practice and began to seek his ‘Holy Grail’ of machine-shaped surfboards. Around 2004, Hyman met Bert Berger and was introduced to his high-tech, handmade surfboard that included balsa rails, and a high-density composite top and bottom. By early 2006, Firewire Surfboards were making their appearance in the lineup. These boards were completely created on a CAD/CAM software allowing for a perfect board to be consistently created without variations. Firewire boards are lighter and stronger than traditional PU surfboards and much of that weight saving and strength comes from our proprietary blank construction. Unlike regular polyurethane cores, which weigh 2.5 - 3lb per cubic foot, the FUTURE SHAPES TECHNOLOGY (FST) and DIRECT DRIVE (DD) cores are built from 1lb EPS foam. A 3mm layer of high density aerospace composite is added through a vacuum process to stabilize the core and increase strength. The end result is an incredibly light weight and durable blank unique to Firewire.

Dominator combines a full outline with a thick foil from nose to tail and a 5/4/3 fin configuration. Dan moved the wide point back to reduce the nose profile, maintaining all of the speed but with none of the top turn drawbacks of retro nose outlines. Built with the flex characteristics and lightweight of FUTURE SHAPES TECHNOLOGY, the DOMINATOR paddles like it's turbo charged and does not track like heavier PU boards with similar dimensions.
Sweet Potato The SP dramatically changes the ratio between the length and width of a board while still allowing the design to perform at a very high level. Designer Dan Mann explains, “The aggressive bottom contour creates considerable lift and the deep double concave with a ‘spine’ down the middle divide the board in half isolating the fins, rocker and bottom on one side of the board at a time. This allows the board to get on a rail quickly. The Sweet Potato is the board you should always bring on a surf check, and you'll find yourself ripping on small days where you'd otherwise go home”.
Alternator Series combines the perfect blend of a short rail line, generous curve and slightly thicker foil, producing a surfboard that paddles well but still turns on a dime. The ALTERNATOR is the workhorse in our collection and is offered in both FUTURE SHAPES and RapidFIRE Technology.
The TAJ Pro Model is built to Taj's exact specs taken from his favorite 5'11" and 6'0" Firewire surfboards, incorporating the identical rail volumes, bottom contours, SPRINGER and increased rocker that are a trademark of his equipment. TAJ Pro Model boards are lightning fast boards with an incredibly tight turning radius.
The Spitfire combines a Diamond tail and STEP-DOWN tail rail, giving the SPITFIRE the tail bite of a thinner board, without losing the Dominator's speed and flotation. The SPITFIRE offers the same 5/4/3 fin options and a low entry rocker for easy paddling
